Amy Poehler’s Good Hang Makes History as First-Ever Best Podcast Winner at the Golden Globes

Amy Poehler wins the first-ever Best Podcast award at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards for Good Hang, delivering a heartfelt and humorous acceptance speech.

Amy Poehler Makes Golden Globes History with Podcast Win

Amy Poehler added another milestone to her career on Sunday night as Good Hang with Amy Poehler won the very first Best Podcast award at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. The win marked a historic moment for the ceremony, which introduced the podcast category for the first time this year.

Taking the stage, Poehler opened her acceptance speech with humor, saying, “I don’t know about awards shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense,” instantly drawing laughs from the audience.

Beating Out a Star-Studded Podcast Lineup

Poehler’s win came against a competitive field of high-profile nominees, including Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, NPR’s Up First, and SmartLess. Notably, SmartLess is co-hosted by Poehler’s ex-husband, Will Arnett, whom she shares two children with.

Poehler has previously appeared on SmartLess as a guest, making the moment both full-circle and uniquely personal.

Gratitude, Love, and a Few Jokes

During her speech, Poehler gave special thanks to Jenna Weiss-Berman, calling her “the best podcast producer in the biz.” Weiss-Berman currently serves as head of audio and podcasts for Paper Kite Productions, Poehler’s production company.

She also shared a heartfelt moment by thanking her boyfriend, Joel Lovell, saying, “I love you. Thank you for everything.” Poehler and Lovell, a former New York Times Magazine deputy editor and longtime audio executive, began dating in the summer of 2024 and made their red carpet debut at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar party.

Respect for the Podcast World — With Classic Poehler Humor

Poehler acknowledged that she is still relatively new to podcasting but emphasized her admiration for the medium and its creators. She expressed appreciation for her fellow nominees before jokingly singling out NPR, quipping that it was “just a bunch of celebs phoning it in,” a line that drew laughter across the room.

She went on to describe Good Hang as an effort to bring warmth and connection into difficult times, saying the podcast aims to make “a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter.”

A Family-Focused Finish

Poehler closed her speech with a loving nod to her children, Archie and Abel, and a lighthearted message to her parents, telling them they could now “go watch the Patriots.”

With this historic Golden Globes win, Amy Poehler proved that podcasts have officially earned their place alongside film and television — and that humor, heart, and meaningful conversation can shine just as brightly in audio form.
