Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt’s New Book ‘Kat and Brandy’ Inspires Kids to Overcome Fear and Embrace Courage

Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt releases her new children’s book Kat and Brandy (Nov 4, 2025), inspired by her real-life childhood pony. Learn how this touching story teaches bravery, confidence, and love for animals—while reflecting Katherine’s own journey as a mom and author.

Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, an acclaimed author, mom of three, and passionate animal advocate, is once again touching hearts with her new children’s book Kat and Brandy, set to release on November 4, 2025. The beautifully illustrated book, created for kids aged 3 to 7, draws inspiration from her real-life bond with her childhood pony, Brandy — and the lessons of love, trust, and courage that came with it.

A Story of Friendship, Fear, and Courage

Growing up, Katherine’s best friend wasn’t another child, but her pony Brandy. “While we didn’t have conversations, we were able to sit in stillness. That unconditional love from an animal was a real gift,” she shared in an interview with Parents.

Her new book, illustrated by Petra Brown, follows a young girl named Kat who loses confidence after falling off her horse. With the gentle help of a rescue horse named Brandy, she rediscovers her courage to ride again.

“This story is based on my own experience,” Katherine explained. “As a child, I had to overcome my fear of riding after falling off. Learning to face that fear taught me bravery that stayed with me into adulthood.”

How Motherhood Fuels Her Confidence

Beyond her writing, Katherine is also the mom of four — Lyla (5), Eloise (3), and Ford (11 months) — whom she shares with actor Chris Pratt, and she’s also stepmom to Jack (13). She admits that motherhood, though beautiful, can test one’s confidence.

“I try to remind myself of my goals and intentions in motherhood,” she said. “Whenever I doubt myself, checking in with my purpose helps me find clarity and confidence.”

Katherine credits her strong support system — especially her husband — for keeping her grounded. “Having a partner you can openly communicate with and knowing you’re both on the same team makes a huge difference,” she said. “Our goal is simple — to raise good human beings together.”

Life Lessons from Her Mother, Maria Shriver

Katherine’s mom, Maria Shriver, played a pivotal role in shaping her confidence. She recalls her mother creating a “judgment-free zone” at home for her and her three siblings.

“That open line of communication was a gift,” she said. “It taught me how to talk about my feelings without fear of criticism. I want to give that same freedom to my children.”

Maria also taught her daughter the power of positive self-talk. “Negative self-talk doesn’t help your confidence,” Katherine said. “Replacing it with kindness toward yourself changes everything.”

Staying Grounded and Present

Family remains Katherine’s anchor. She feels grateful to see her parents and siblings several times a week, including her father, Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Being around them helps me stay present and connected,” she shared.

To manage the chaos of parenting, she also practices Transcendental Meditation (TM) — a technique she rediscovered while pregnant with her youngest. “It helps me slow down and appreciate the moment,” she said.

Katherine revealed that her sister was the one who made her realize she wasn’t being fully present. “She told me, ‘You’re missing these special moments.’ She was right — I needed to change. Meditation helped me find that peace again.”

Rising Above Criticism in the Public Eye

As a celebrity mom, Katherine faces public scrutiny over even the simplest parenting choices. But she doesn’t let negativity define her.

“There are moments when criticism gets to you,” she admitted. “That’s when I rely on my support system and refocus on my values. Staying true to my family’s beliefs matters more than public opinion.”

Instead of dwelling on negativity, she uses her platform for good — spreading positive, family-friendly messages through her books and projects.

The Message Behind Kat and Brandy

For Katherine, Kat and Brandy isn’t just another children’s story — it’s a lesson in courage, empathy, and resilience.

“If one child reads this book and feels inspired to face their fears, then I’ve done my job,” she said. “I want every child to know they’re not alone — and that bravery comes from within.”
